1.0 INTRODUCTION
Thank you for trying TAGEDIT! - the latest production from Gondolin
Technologies!
TagEdit is a multi-function user editor made specifically for the
T.A.G. BBS System that hundreds use around the world. TagEdit was
written in Turbo Pascal 6.0, using state-of-the-art programming, and
greatly assisted by the data structures provided by the T.A.G. Team!!
1.1 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
My thanks go out to the T.A.G. Team for publishing the data structures
that they have used to implement the T.A.G. BBS System.
Also to Dave Smith, SysOp of the StarShip Enterprise BBS for his
valuable assistance in developing and testing this program. Give Dave
a call! His BBS is listed on the next page.
I am also deeply grateful to the BetaTesters who have made this
work possible through their assistance and bug reports! Call them up
and support their BBS'S! They deserve it!
1.2 LIST OF ALPHA AND BETA TESTING SITES
Alpha Site
Starship Enterp - Dave Smith - 1:231/824 - (317) 397-8504
Beta Sites
Colosseum BBS - Dan Smith - 1:313/7 - (###) ###-####
FirePoint BBS - Joe Noel - 1:3805/4 - (###) ###-####
Both the Alpha Site, and the 2 Beta Sites should have the latest
version of TAGEDIT+ on-line for you to download, or most likely, also
have it available for FREQ through Fidonet. Do not hesitate to contact
those System Operators for assistance.
2.0 INSTALLATION
2.1 FILE LOCATION
Simply place all of the files from the TGEDIT??.ZIP archive into
the same directory. Be sure that the directory that you place
TAGEDIT+ in is located within your PATH, otherwise TAGEDIT+ will not
be able to find it's configuration file.
For more information, please see the included TAGEDIT.CFG.
2.2 TAGEDIT.CFG
Using your favorite text editor, edit the included file TAGEDIT.CFG.
This file contains all of the information that is needed in order for
TAGEDIT+ to function properly.
2.2.1 Line 1 - Registration User
If your copy of TAGEDIT+ has not been registered then
DO NOT edit this line.
If you have registered your copy, place the name
--exactly as it appears on the registration form-- here.
2.2.2 Line 2 - Registration KEY
If your copy of TAGEDIT+ has not been registered then
DO NOT edit this line.
If you have registered your copy, place the registration
key that you have received from Gondolin Technologies in
this line.
2.2.3 Line 3 - Serial Number
If your copy of TAGEDIT+ has not been registered then
DO NOT edit this line.
If you have registered your copy, place the serial
number that you have received from Gondolin Technologies
in this line.
2.2.4 Line 4 - Location of Node Files
This is the exact path, including the drive letter and an
ending slash, to the directory containing the STATUS.DAT
of your T.A.G. System. If you are running a system with
more than one node, use the one that your users regularly
access. If your users access more than one node, you will
have to modify this after using the purge/rebuild function
of TagEdit in order for your system to properly function.
2.2.5 Line 5 - Location of your MultiNode directory.
This is the exact path, including the drive letter and an
ending slash, to the directory containing your system's
USER.LST, NAMES.LST, SHORTMSG.DAT, etc.
2.2.6 Lines 6-12 - Color Configuration
These lines contain the colors that you can select to your
own tastes. The colors are represented by the following
numbers:
0 = Black
1 = Blue
2 = Green
3 = Cyan
4 = Red
5 = Magenta
6 = Brown
7 = LightGray
8 = DarkGray
9 = LightBlue
10 = LightGreen
11 = LightCyan
12 = LightRed
13 = LightMagenta
14 = Yellow
15 = White
Each line represents a textual object on the screen.
Line 6 is the Selection Key Color, such as 1 for UserName. This
color defaults to 13 (LightMagenta).
Line 7 is the Selection Key Frame Color. The frames are the []
that surround each selection key. This color defaults to
8 (DarkGray).
Line 8 is the Title Color. The Title is the textual object
immediately following the frames. This color defaults to
9 (LightBlue).
Line 9 is the Data Color. The Data is any information that
is read from the USER.LST file. This color defaults to
5 (Magenta).
Line 10 is the Active Color. This is the color that is used
for any AR or SR flag that is active for that user. This color
defaults to 5 (Magenta).
Line 11 is the Inactive Color. This is the color that is used
for any AR or SR flag that is not active for that user. This
color defaults to 8 (DarkGray).
Line 12 is the Flag Color. The two flags in TagEdit+ are
<User Deleted> and <Locked Out>. This color defaults to
12 (LightRed).
The other colors in the program are not configurable. These
include the exit screens, the help screen, and the program title
area at the top of your screen.
3.0 USAGE
3.1 COMMAND-LINE USAGE
There are several switches that can be implemented from the
command line. These were implemented so that certain actions of
TAGEDIT+ could be executed from within an event.
3.1.1 -?
This command shows a brief summary of the command-line
options.
3.1.2 -D
This will start TAGEDIT+ hunting for duplicate users. The
output will be written to DUPS.LOG.
3.1.3 -M
This will start TAGEDIT+ of compiling and writing a mailing
list of all of the users in the USER.LST file. The output
will be written to MAILER.LST.
3.1.4 -P
This will begin a complete rebuld of USER.LST. All deleted
users will be purged from the file. However, the user
numbers of the users will change, because the user number must
be the same as thier position in USER.LST or TAG will not
allow them in, it'll think they've been locked out. So, be
sure to warn your users before running this.
By the way, before running purge/rebuild function, back up
all of your T.A.G. Data files. Please immediately report
any errors. Include a screen dump of the terminating
screen in case of any unexpected situations.
3.2 The User Editor
For more infomration about the commands within the
UserEditor, Press F1 for the Help screen!
4.0 Limitations of Unregistered Version
If your version of TagEdit+ has not been registered with Gondolin
Technologies (See below for more information), then several of the
key features will not operate. These features are listed below
for your convenience.
* Purge Userfile of deleted users, and rebuild it
* Program will only run for 14 days.
